How to design a CV/Resume Template in Photoshop

Hello and welcome to another tutorial here on trendyTUTS.com. For today I will show you how to design a CV/Resume template in Photoshop.

It’s a known fact that having a professional designed resume/cv it will increase your chances to get a job, that’s why this time I will show you how you can design your own CV/Resume template in some easy steps.

If you are a novice in Photoshop, you don’t need to worry. This tutorial is written for you and I recommend you to take your time and read this tutorial. I guarantee that your end result it will be like in the screenshot below or much better than that…

Here is my final result:

CV/Resume Template Tutorial

Step 1

Let’s start it. Open Photoshop and create a new document, 1020px by 1020px and for background choose transparent.

Step 2

Select rectangle tool and create a large rectangle to cover the entire canvas. As a color I have used: #e0d9cb

Step 3

Having Rectangle Tool still selected I will create a shape on the top of the canvas, as a color I will use #ff8a00
My result:

Step 4

On the middle of my document I will create this sphere using Ellipse Tool and I will apply a Gaussian Blur (Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur) of about 56px. I will change the blending mode to Overly and I will lower the opacity to 68%

Step 5

I will select Rounded Rectangle Tool with a radius of 20px I will create this shape and I will apply this layer styles

Step 6

On the left side I will create the navigation, that’s why I will select Rectangle Tool and I will create this white shape.

Step 7

On my Layer Palette I will identify the layer for the shape created on step 6 I change the blending mode to Overlay and I will add a layer mask.

Step 8

Once the layer mask is added I will select Gradient Tool, I will make sure that the default palette (black and white is selected) and I will drag a similar line over the shape created on Step 6.

Step 9

Once I will have all of this created, I will select Line Tool and I will create this 2 lines:


Then select both layers (for this lines) on your layer palette and press Ctrl +E to merge theme (to create from this 2 layers a single one).

Step 10

After you have merged this layers, we will use the same trick learned on Steps 7 and 8. On my layer palette I will select the corresponding layer for my lines and I will create a layer mask, than I will select Gradient Tool and I will drag a line like I have done on Step 8.
Here is my result:

In the same way I will continue and I will add few more lines, then with Type Tool I will add the links for navigation. Here is my result:

Step11

Now I will start to create the Content Area. First I will select Rectangle Tool and I will create this shape

Step12

With Pen Tool I will create this shapes and I will add them on the left and on the right side of the main shape.

Step 13

With Ellipse Tool I will create this white shape

Then I will change the blending mode to Overly and I will apply a Gaussian Blur of about 15px.
Here is my result:

With Type Tool I will add the some text

Step 14

With Type Tool I will add some content on the main shape

Step 15

With Rectangle Tool I will create a shape on the right side. I have used this color: #fcfbf6

Step 16

Next with Pen Tool I will create this shapes:

Then I will apply a Gaussian Blur of about 15px. My result:

Step 17

The final Step would be to add an image and some social icons. Here is my result:
